Dusty Springfield was one of the best selling female singers of the 1960's. Originally in The Lana
Sisters she later joined forces with her brother Tom to form The Springfield's. When the group split
in 1963 she became a solo singer with her debut song " I Only Want To Be With You". Her other hits
included Son of a Preacher Man, Goin Back,I Just don't know what to do with myself and her classic
UK number 1 hit You don't have to say you love me. She was instantly recognisable with her beehive
hairstyle and Panda eye make up.

After a quiet period in the 1970s she emerged back on the pop scene in 1987 with The Pet Shop Boys
duet " What Have i Done to Deserve This".

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 while recording her new album " A Very Fine Love" and
was put into remission.

Sadly the cancer returned and took her life on 2nd March 1999.

She may not be with us anymore but has left a lasting impression within the pop music industry and
also left a legacy of songs for future generations to enjoy.

Such a great influence

I love you Dusty, you are one of my big influences as a singer (only for relaxation). No one has your soulful quality, so natural and powerful. I miss you so much. Rest happy, dear Dusty

great memories of a great star

i saw you in concert in newcastle city hall in the 1960's, i went with some workmates and we talked about you for day's after. i have remained a life long fan, and there will only be one dusty with her unique style of singing, i am so pleased i got to see her in the flesh, she was more lovely than any photo could do credit to. margaretx.

Those we love remain with us,
For love itself lives on'
And cherished memories never fade,
Because a loved ones gone,
Those we love can never be,
More than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart
